Forge de Laguiole 12 cm Corkscrew Knife Thuya

The Forge de Laguiole 12 cm Picnic Knife Thuya is a stunning example of artisanal utility, handcrafted in the village of Laguiole, France. This model features a handle carved from Thuya, an aromatic coniferous wood harvested from the Atlas Mountains. Thuya is highly prized for its dense burl and exquisite "peacock eye" patterns, showcasing a warm, golden-brown palette that glows with a natural luster. Because of its complex grain, no two Thuya handles are ever alike, making each knife a unique natural treasure.

While this multi-tool includes a professional-grade corkscrew for the perfect vineyard excursion, it is increasingly favored as the ultimate folding steak knife. Rather than relying on the dull, serrated "saws" often provided by restaurants, the discerning diner carries this personal instrument to ensure a clean, precise cut. By slicing effortlessly through a premium steak, it preserves the meat's texture and juices, significantly elevating the overall culinary experience.

Like all Forge de Laguiole instruments, it showcases a forged T12 steel blade and a one-piece forged bee seamlessly integrated with a hand-decorated spring. Each piece is crafted from start to finish by a single master artisan, ensuring that every knife is a unique masterpiece of French artisanal excellence.

What is a Forged Bee?

A forged bee is a hallmark of superior craftsmanship. You can identify it by examining the transition where the bee meets the decorated spring; if there are no visible gaps, the bee and spring were forged from a single piece of metal. This traditional method preserves the structural integrity and historical authenticity of the 1800s originals.

In contrast, many budget-friendly options feature soldered bees, recognizable by a straight gap or ridge where the bee is attached. Soldering is a modern, cost-saving method that lacks the durability and artisanal value of a true Forge de Laguiole instrument.
